Saying 'Tired' in Spanish
cansado v. cansador
In Costa Rica I had been confused about the use of the word 'cansado', not just to describe
someone who's tired, but also to describe an activity that is tiring or tiresome. I was always accustomed
to the word 'cansador' for the English word 'tiring'. (Quite frankly, it still makes a lot more sense
to me to use 'cansador' to talk about something that is actively tiring someone out, instead of the more
passive past participle for 'cansado') After hearing 'cansado' so many times without
any local alternative within earshot, I started to research this distinction between the two words that were
tiresomely tiring me out. It turns out that 'cansador' is mainly a South American word, whereas the
rest of the Spanish-speaking world says 'cansado'. Man, I'm pretty 'cansado' from
writing this.
