Wetlands Reforestation

Reforestation-Women's Group working on reforestation
project In June of 2006, the Santa Fe Women's Group started its reforestation efforts to plant trees in public places, like soccer fields and schoolyards, as well as in the Santa Fe Wetlands. The project is truly a community effort, as the Women's Group has incorporated 4 different local schools in these important efforts in environmental protection and appreciation of the Guatuso area's natural beauty. Each school will create its own schoolyard garden in order to educate the youngsters in the important areas of basic botany and environmental appreciation and protection. The students will understand the importance of trees in the region's ecosystem, as well as their global importance as carbon dioxide consumers.

The Women's Group is also going to plant the trees in important, yet underforested, public places like main streets and soccer fields. The Women's Group will also plant the trees along multiple parts of the Santa Fe Wetlands. The fruit trees planted in these wetlands locations will offer food to many of the bird species which are so vital to the wetlands ecosystem.

The Women's Group has already started to plant 1,000 trees, but the women understand that reforestation is an ongoing effort and will continue to plant more trees. If you have any questions regarding the project or what you can do to help, contact us to learn how you can help this reforestation effort.
