Rural Education by Video In late 2005, the Santa Fe Women's Group learned about the opportunities that a Colegio Telesecundaria, or Video High School, could bring to their children. The Colegio Telesecundaria is a system of high school lessons by video started in Mexico that caters to children in rural Latin America. The video lessons cover a diverse array of school subjects, and in Costa Rica, the academic results of Colegio Telesecundaria students often surpass those of their urban counterparts who attend traditional secondary schools. See how the Santa Fe Women's Group achieved energy indpendence with its biogas project The Santa Fe Women's Group soon seized this opportunity to ensure Telesecundaria classes for the 2007 school year. The opening of the Telesecundaria will be great accomplishment toward the education of Santa Fe youth, as many children whose families cannot afford the long, $4 round-trip every day to class simply stay in Santa Fe to work in the fields, without much chance to pursue other career paths. The Telesecundaria is the only way to ensure universal access to secondary education for children in this remote rural area. Also, families will be able to have their children close to home while they are in high school, helping maintain the family unity that is central to the Santa Fe way of life.
